About

A bit of background info . . .

Fishing and boating have been a part of my life since childhood.  I spent many, many hours on, and in, the sea learning to catch fish, from pretty much as far back as I remember. but . . .  that was back in the UK.  Unfortunately I was also witness to the slow and steady decline of virtually every commercially viable species in the English Channel.   Many North Atlantic fish species are in critical decline and the whole marine environment is in a sorry state of affairs due to massive commercial over-fishing.

After my full-body transplant to New Zealand a few years ago I was more than a little pleased to experience a level of fishing that was better than I ever remembered it to be ‘back up North’.  There’s many more fish here in NZ- and there’s much bigger fish here in NZ!  My 35yrs of angling experience have taught me a hell of a lot but, I’m learning that New Zealand fish are different beasts in a different environment;  New territories, new habits, new baits, new tackle.  I’ve realised that I’m pretty much starting from scratch and am back on the bottom rung of the ladder  . . .  and no doubt set for a steep learning curve.  So this blog is the journey of my learning.  You’re welcome to tag along for the ride. ‘
